History of Bowls
The history of bowls is in the most sources rooted to Egypt and all the way back to 5000 BC. Egyptians were playing games where the goal was to hit the target with round rocks. To Europe the game arrived trough the Roman empire. Since then, the game has found its way around the globe finding many forms and names.
The game was played with many rules untill 1848 a meeting in Glascow, Scotland, collected over 200 players from various clubs in order to unify the laws. They created the “uniform code of laws”, which have acted as a basis for the subsequent laws.
Most Finns have received their first contact with bowls while abroad or trough sports channels. The first Finnish bowls club, Bowls Finland Ry, was established in 2005.
